Aquarium Benchly Fish Handplane
This double concave, glossy, fish-shaped handplane is a stunning, performance bodysurfer. The lighter wood comes from Alaskan Cedar benches used by thousands of visitors at the world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium. The redwood stripes come from floorboards milled in the late-1800s from the historic, Schwan mansion in Santa Cruz, California.
Five percent of the profits from this handplane go to support the aquarium's mission to inspire conservation of the oceans. Today, 30 years after opening, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is a showcase for the habitats and sea life of one of the world's richest marine regions. More than 35,000 creatures representing over 550 species fill 34 major galleries. With nearly 200 exhibits in all, the Aquarium is a window to the wonders of the ocean.
This handplane uses Entropy Super Sap Epoxy bio-resin which is made mostly using tree sap. The hand strap is nylon and adjustable. It is covered with offcuts from O'Neill Wetsuit product development, and the wood is shaped with our unique, ergonomic hand fit. The hardware is solid brass. As with all Ventana handplanes, this one floats so you can easily pass it between friends in the waves.
This handplane comes with a Ventana, double-thick, reclaimed towel bag with a Paracord drawstring from Khordz mugs. An eighth-grade seamstress in Soquel, California creates these unique bags for us!
You only need a single handplane on your leading arm for a great ride every time! This is a terrific conversation piece in your home and will slice you across the face of any sized surf.
